This guide provides step-by-step instructions for SmartPay merchants to integrate Google Pay into their online store’s hosted checkout. With Google Pay, you can offer your customers a fast, secure, and convenient payment option directly through your checkout page.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have the following:

  • An active Google Pay Merchant account.
  • Access to the Google Pay & Wallet Console.
  • SmartPay’s hosted checkout solution is enabled and set up for your store.

Step 1: Set Up Your Google Pay Merchant Account

To start accepting Google Pay, you first need to create a Google Pay Merchant account:

  1. Go to the Google Pay & Wallet Console.
  2. Sign in with your Google account, or create a new one.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to create your merchant profile.
  4. Provide necessary details such as your business name, country, and industry.

Step 2: Submit Your Merchant Account for Approval

After setting up your profile, you need to submit your account for approval:

  1. Once your profile is complete, click Submit to send it for review.
  2. Google will review your account details and approve it if everything is in order.
  3. After approval, you will be issued a Google Merchant ID, which will be essential for the integration process.

Step 3: Enable Google Pay in Your Google Pay & Wallet Console

Once your merchant account is approved:

  1. Log in to the Google Pay & Wallet Console.
  2. Go to the Google Pay Settings section and enable Google Pay for your store.
  3. Note down your Google Merchant ID and any other required credentials. You’ll need this information to complete the integration with SmartPay.

Step 4: Provide Your Google Merchant ID to SmartPay

To complete the integration, you will need to provide your Google Merchant ID to SmartPay.

  1. Log in to your SmartPay Merchant Dashboard.
  2. Locate the Google Pay Configuration section.
  3. Enter your Google Merchant ID in the appropriate field.

SmartPay will use this ID to configure the Google Pay button on your checkout page.

Step 5: Confirm the Google Pay Button on Your Hosted Checkout

SmartPay will handle the technical aspects of integrating the Google Pay button on your checkout page. However, it’s important to verify that the button is visible and correctly placed for your customers.

  • The Google Pay Button will automatically appear during checkout.
  • Make sure the button is functioning as expected, and customers can easily select Google Pay as a payment method.

Step 6: Payment Gateway Configuration

SmartPay will ensure your payment gateway is configured for Google Pay. However, you’ll need to provide the following information:

  1. Gateway ID: This identifies your payment processor.
  2. Gateway Merchant ID: This may be required for some payment processors.

Ensure that these details are provided to SmartPay so that they can finalize the Google Pay setup for your store.

Step 7: Test Google Pay on Your Checkout

Before going live, it’s important to test the Google Pay integration to make sure everything is working correctly.

  1. Test Environment: SmartPay offers a sandbox environment for testing. Use this environment to simulate Google Pay transactions and ensure the payment process works smoothly.
  2. Verify Payment Process: During testing, confirm that:
    • The Google Pay button appears correctly.
    • The customer can select Google Pay during checkout.
    • Payments are processed without errors.

Step 8: Go Live with Google Pay

Once testing is complete and successful, you can go live with Google Pay:

  1. Confirm Setup: Verify that everything is configured and working correctly with SmartPay support.
  2. Go Live: SmartPay will make the Google Pay button available to your customers on your checkout page.
  3. Monitor Transactions: Keep an eye on your transactions to ensure payments are processed smoothly.

Final Notes

  • 3D Secure (3DS) Transactions: If you are using 3D Secure (3DS) for payment authentication, SmartPay will handle the process during checkout. You don’t need to configure this manually.
  • Transaction Data: All transaction data from Google Pay is securely transmitted to SmartPay and processed according to your existing payment gateway configuration.
